Is Karate Right For Your Kids?

Martial Arts Happy Child“IF Martial Arts turned out to be an effective way to develop character skills; IF it were taught in a fun, exciting way to your child… would it be worth 30 minutes of your time to find out more?”

(With dramatic results in as little as 30 days!)

Your child has a bright future… potentially.

In a video game, “reality T.V.” and social media driven culture, your child can be influenced by a lot of negativity, or worse still, continually be exposed to poor role models. (Read More)

As a parent you work very hard to instill in your child how to make good choices. But many parents need a few tips and some help. After all, with our busy 21st Century schedules, it’s hard to find the time and resources to really help your child with these important life skills.

How challenging is it to:

  • Arm your child to succeed in life?
  • Help them be the best they can be in school?
  • Develop their self-confidence?
  • Assist them in developing their unique potential?
  • Teach them self-discipline?

“My life has definitely improved since starting karate. I am more disciplined with my homework by getting it done faster and trying harder on it. I have also been able to make more friends. Plus it makes me feel good about myself.”
Trent (age 13) – De Pere, WI

You would think and expect that they would learn about perseverance, positive mental attitudes, self discipline and goal setting in school, but they really don’t. Unfortunately the school systems are bogged down with overcrowded classrooms and ever decreasing teacher resources.

I’m Ron Achenbach, Owner and Chief Instructor of Karate America Leadership Academy in De Pere. I’ve been teaching martial arts in the Green Bay and De Pere area for over a decade to hundreds of children just like yours. Karate America excels at providing top character development and leadership development skills to children through martial arts. We have one goal in mind. To help children succeed in life.

Ever hear your child say things like:

  • “I’m not as pretty as Alexis”
  • “I’m never picked till the end.”
  • “Nobody really likes me.”

When you hear your child say these things it just makes your heart sink. But it doesn’t have to be this way. (Read More)

I’m on a mission to help children AND their parents overcome these obstacles through karate.

My mission is to help children achieve academic success, gain confidence, increase their self-esteem, avoid peer pressure, stay fit and live a healthy lifestyle. And your child will learn these important skills in a fun, family oriented environment. I have a secret to share with you; I’m doing it everyday with children just like yours and I can do it for you. I GUARANTEE IT!!!

So how do you go about preparing them for the challenges of our fast paced 21st Century?

The fact that you’re reading this tells me you want the best for your child.
How do you teach them to have a positive attitude, to be self-motivated, to set and attain goals and to learn how to concentrate and focus? (Read More)

This is no easy task, as this specialized type of education is not taught in our schools. It is not taught on our football, baseball or soccer fields either.

These life skills, if taught to children at a young age, can have a tremendous impact on the outcome of their lives and how successful they become.

During the many years that I have been training and teaching my specialized martial arts program, I have seen countless numbers of your boys and girls who were very shy and lacked anything that resembled self confidence. Some of them could not focus or concentrate for more than a few seconds at a time. Many of these children were not doing very well in school or in social situations because of their lack of self-confidence.

Karate Side Kick33% of children suffer negatively from low self-esteem

I have a soft spot in my heart for these youngsters. I know that with the right direction and training their lives can be changed significantly for the better. I have focused my entire karate program around this premise. Yes, I believe we offer the best in martial arts training. Yes we’ve produced local, state, and national champions, but that is not enough. Our entire children’s program is centered on what we call our Leadership Training.

Over the years, I have seen hundreds of children benefit from our unique approach to teaching martial arts.

  • Overweight children who lost a few pounds through self-discipline and exercise gained tremendous amounts of self-esteem and self-confidence.
  • Smart children, who were bored in school, learned to set goals and reach for higher levels.
  • Shy children were brought out of their shell and learned to enjoy life.
  • Overactive children learned to channel their energy and focus their attention.
  • Children with High Functioning Autism excel because of the structured environment.

What are you doing now to empower them with greater self esteem, confidence, focus and concentration? That’s what our parents want for their children. At Karate America we have developed our specialized Leadership Program, which combines our unique martial arts physical training with life skills and character development, to give you all the tools your child needs.

“The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat,
but in the perfection of the character of its participants.”
–Gichin Funakoshi (father of modern karate)

I constantly hear the same response from parents:
“I would have never thought of getting my kids started in karate. But now that I have, I am amazed how it has changed them. I wish someone would have told me this sooner.” (Read More)

Why Karate America Instruction will Benefit Your Child

It’s well known that physical activity promotes a sense of well being and improves health. Active people (whether kids or adults) have less stress, fewer illnesses, less anxious, and a more positive outlook.

At Karate America we work hand-in-hand with you to improve your child’s self-discipline, self-confidence, mental alertness and goal-setting.

Imagine your child:

  • Doing their chores WITHOUT being reminded repeatedly
  • Getting their school work done FIRST
  • SAYING, “I gave a great speech in class today.”
  • Not being affected by negative PEER PRESSURE.
  • Using GOAL SETTING to turn their dreams to reality

Parents have attributed our program with improved grades as a direct result of the increased achievement, motivation, self-direction and self-confidence provided by the program.

Help Your Child Set Positive Goals

FitnessIt is important for each child to learn to set short-term, intermediate and long term goals. Young people are taught at Karate America that through dedicated work, all worthwhile goals in life are possible.

At Karate America, every child’s goal is to become a Black Belt and beyond. Black Belt is a symbol of excellence in martial arts and an important tool for instructors and parents to use for developing desire, tenacity and for teaching the importance of follow-through in any activity.

Karate America will give you new POWERFUL strategies to help with Self-Discipline and Responsibility

A 2001 study published in the psychology journal “Adolescence” showed a vast improvement in good behavior among children who took martial arts classes.

Today is the day! Isn’t it time you get your child started on a path that leads them to an outstanding life? (Read More)

Karate High KickNot everyone qualifies for our program.

I have never met a child who could not benefit in some way from taking martial arts. That being said, there are certain people who should not come to our academy. (Read More)

If you are looking for an “activity” for your child… we are not it. I only want kids, AND their parents, who are dedicated to developing themselves fully.

Earning a Black Belt is a commitment, and one we don’t take lightly. If you don’t think you, your child, or your family will be enthusiastic about being in our program than you are probably not a good fit for our program.

Karate America isn’t right for everyone. There are a lot of styles of martial arts out there. And they’re all good. It’s not the martial arts style that is important. It is the instructors. Our instructors are highly trained (with continuing education on a weekly basis) to draw out the best from our students. So if you are looking for someone to babysit your kids, or think just showing up is good enough to earn your next belt, you are sadly mistaken.

Frequently Asked Questions (Read More)

Will martial arts teach my child to fight?

Actually, quite the opposite. On your child’s very first lesson they are taught when they can and cannot use their new found skills. They learn (and memorize) that they will only fight to protect their life and the lives of others. Martial arts teaches kids how to avoid fighting. Children learn how to avoid the situations, and people, which may lead to them having to use their skills to protect themselves.  Our karate program focuses on building self-esteem first, physical skills second.

My child never sticks with anything, whether it’s playing piano, playing soccer, dance, etc. How do I know they’ll stick with Karate?

Children are very inquisitive and think they can do anything.  When they see martial arts on TV it looks like it would be a lot of fun.   The problem comes from how the child is instructed. When children want to quit an activity it’s usually for one of three reasons.

1. When they start its either way too hard so they become frustrated, or they find it too easy and there is no real challenge so they become bored.
2. There is someone within the group that they do not get along with or are bullied by.
3. They are not recognized for their effort because they are not one of the “star performers.”

Our instructors are thoroughly trained on how to challenge students on an individual level while they learn to work as a team. Also, instructors are trained to recognizing a child’s learning style and communicate in a way the child best understands. We are constantly encouraging students and putting them in an atmosphere where they have the opportunity to excel.

Does my child have to compete in tournaments?

We offer two tournaments each year co-sponsored by Karate America De Pere and the Karate America Schools of the Fox Valley. Students are encouraged to compete but are NOT required to compete. We understand that competition is not for everyone. For those that do want to compete we makes sure they are well prepared.

What if my child has ADD, ADHD, or Austism?

Because the classes are high energy it helps ADD/ADHD students to stay on task quite well. The structure of the class allows these same students to be focused. It is the structure of martial arts classes, along with the repetitive nature of class, that helps students with Autism to adapt quickly to the social environment.

Receive a Special Gift when You Invite a Friend or Family Member. In our experience, the students who get the most out of karate classes are those who train with someone they know. They have a shared “experience” that adds tremendously to the outcome. They tend to hold each other much more accountable. If you know of someone who would also benefit from martial arts have them fill out the online form and put your name as the reference. You’ll both receive a special gift. Plus it can help out with car pooling!

“Karate hasn’t only taught him physical skills; it has taught him life skills. We don’t feel that we necessarily paid for his karate training, but instead invested in his life and who he will become.”
