As I wrap up this month talking about responsibility, one of the main ideas I was trying to get across to my students was the mindset of “leaving your mark.” It was helping them understand that they were responsible for their attitude which leaves a mark in the minds of others, especially when confronted with adversity.
They also learned about the mark they left by how clean their room was, their personal hygiene, as well as the quality of schoolwork they did. These are the things that leave lasting impressions on others. It’s all a matter of them learning to take pride in what they do, and doing it to the best of their ability.
What we do and how we do it defines us to other people. Period. If you’re not sure of others opinion of you look at the mark you leave from the eyes of someone you respect greatly. If you don’t like what you see maybe you need to be a little more responsible.
